From village to village along the roads of Badia Valley

The main entrance to Badia Valley is situated in S. Lorenzo at the edge of Pusteria Valley. After passing through Gadera, Longega comes into sight: turn left for S.Vigilio di Marebbe or right for Rina and more villages of the valley.
Piccolino is the next village to be reached after traveling along more curves of the valley.
The area of S. Martino extends from here and includes two more villages, Longiaru' e Antermoia. Pederoa, a small artisanal village in the town of La Valle, appears after a few more kilometers. The territory of Alta Badia also begins here, which includes La Valle, Pedraces, La Villa, San Cassiano, Corvara and Colfosco. Upon reaching the village of Pedraces, Alta Badia suddenly changes its appearance and opens up to a vast and beautiful valley, surrounded by Sasso Croce, Lavarella, Conturines, Sassongher, Gardenaccia and the Sella Group.

S.Vigilio di Marebbe 1193 m San Vigilio is located in a magnificent basin surrounded by meadows, forest and the walls of Piz da Peres and Monte Sella. A beautiful church is situated in the center of town, around which well-kept houses with apartments for rent, numerous hotels and bed and breakfasts gather. The lively holiday destination has a favorable climate, many walking and hiking possibilities and a well-known winter sports resort with modern lift systems that access Plan de Corones, the ski resort par excellence. Pieve di Marebbe 1284 m Pieve di Marebbe is a typically agricultural village which consists of several characteristic homes and farms called viles, some very old and steeped in history, that are scattered on the sunny side of Plan de Corones. Rina 1392 m A predominantly agricultural village at the beginning of the Badia Valley, Rina lies on the right side, in the forested slopes of Col dla Vedia. Several houses have been built around the church in the past few years. S. Martino in Badia 1127 m San Martino is overlooked by its grand castle, Ciastel de Tor, which also houses the Ladin Museum. The local population is dedicated to craftwork and cultivation of the countryside. Recently, winter tourism has taken hold with the construction of a new gondola that connects S. Martinto to S. Vigilio. Longiarù 1398 m This charming little village is found in the valley of Longiarù and also inside the Puez-Odles Natural Park. A sign of some development in the once exclusively agricultural village can be seen with the small summer tourist center. Antermoia 1514 m Antermoia is a small town on the road to Passo delle Erbe, at the food of the majestic Sasso Putia. The center has undergone a remarkable change with the construction of many villas and several hotels. Antermoia is in a very panoramic and sunny location, a beautiful summer and winter vacation destination.
Ideas for simple day trips in the area (with departure from Alta Badia)

1. Passo delle Erbe.
From Alta Badia, take the road towards Brunico. Before Piccolino, take a left at the intersection towards San Martino, go through the village, next to Tor Castle (Ladin Museum) and continue to Antermoia. Past Antermoia, follow the signs to Passo delle Erbe (large parking lot). A romantic walk to the walls of Sasso Putia is recommended.
2. Ladin Museum/Ciastel de Tor and the Valle dei Mulini: From Alta Badia, it’s possible to visit the museum and castle of San Martino. The museum exhibits nature of the valley and culture of the Ladin. www.museumladin.it
In Longiarù, a specially conserved walking path has been prepared to display traditional mills, with their characteristic man-made canals. The mills function and on some occasions are run for demonstration purposes.
3. The Regno di Fanes.
From Alta Badia, travel in the direction of Brunico, turn towards S. Vigilio and continue to Pederü (access subject to a toll). Start walking up to the Fanes alps, the famous land full of legends. Refreshments are available at Lavarella and Fanes mountain huts. Take the same path down to return.
